today's five on friday is full of some of my favorite moments with laney this past week. that girl is a riot and keeps us laughing all the time.
one. she's been on a "georgia bulldog" kick lately. (go dawgs!) jeffrey wore a georgia golf shirt to work the other day and when he walked in the door at the end of the day she said, "hi daddy! how was the georgia game?!" serious as all get out. when we were playing "sad, mad, glad" at supper the other night (each person says one thing that made them sad, mad, and glad that day) laney told us she "felt sad because no one took her to see the gym dogs" that day. ha! i guess she really enjoyed our georgia gymnastics experience. and finally, if you ask where we live she will very proudly tell you, "Georgia Game!"
two. i got out some of the boxes of spring/summer clothes this week. laney was trying on shoes and was thrilled to have so many new (to her) shoes to choose from. she is especially pleased with her "randals" as she calls them. and i just don't have the heart to correct her and tell her they're "Sandals."
three. when laney says the blessing before supper you never really know what you're going to get. some days she's feeling the spirit move and will pray to her little heart's content. other days, she narrates the days events in the form of "prayer." one night this past week she was praying - after stopping repeatedly to remind everyone (especially libbi) to close their eyes, stop eating, and listen - and we had to try so hard not to laugh. while she's busy telling libbi "don't eat!" she's simultaneously trying to pray and sneak a few bites of her own supper. this particular night she was praying, "thank you God for this day. thank you that I went to school today. please help libbi to close her eyes…" and then she dropped a big bite of yogurt on her placemat, but continued on in her prayer without missing a beat - "please help me to eat that bite. amen."
four. laney is absolutely the nicest, most polite person in our family. no kidding! she says please and thank you constantly. she will throw out a "you yelcome!" before you even have a chance to finish saying thanks. she loves playing "supper" in her room and wants to go upstairs and play constantly. (basically "supper" is her version of top chef. she uses every bit of pretend food we have to make all kinds of culinary creations which we are then required to "taste.") she asks me all the time, "can i go play supper upstairs in my room?" and when i say yes she will reply, "oh, thank you momma! that is a good choice. that is so sweet of you!" ha! it's nice to know i have her approval. ;)
five. finally, laney sleeps pretty much like she acts all day…. W-I-L-D! ha! unfortunately for us, she's been our little roommate for most of this week. since she and libbi share a room we didn't want her bunking with libbi while libs had the stomach virus. so we reluctantly let laney sleep with us. laney was over the moon. as soon as we told her she would be sleeping in our bed, she immediately started yawning and acting like she was tired. it was only 6:30. now, imagine the letter H….each of the sides represent me and jeffrey, the middle represents laney. that is exactly how she likes to sleep. her head in jeffrey's side and her feet in my ribs. you can imagine how comfortable that is. so we did what any normal, sleep deprived parents would do: we moved her to the foot of our bed. we laughed and said it felt like she was our family dog. she'd burrow and circle at the foot of the bed until she found her "spot" and then she was out. sprawled out across the foot of the bed, happy as can be. oh, how we love that girl.
hope y'all have had a great week! we have big plans this weekend. libbi and i are going to the ballet tomorrow. and on sunday, we are all celebrating jeffrey since it's his birthday! woohoo! here's to a fun weekend with my three little ladies! TGIF, y'all!
the girls had their fun run at school today. it was a fundraiser to help raise money for new playground equipment at their school. they ran around a makeshift "track" - kind of like a modern day "walk-a-thon" - do y'all remember those? the only thing i remember about the walk-a-thon is my teacher trying to encourage us to "KEEP WALKING!!!" and "PICK UP THE PACE!" while my friends and i leisurely walked around the track just socializing. the rest of our classmates completed upwards of 20 laps, we maaaaaay have completed 2-3 laps, tops. but we sure did catch up on all the latest and greatest. ;-)
anyway, back to the fun run…. the girls were pumped to run and had such a fun time. they earned medals after they completed their run (laney ran 10 laps and libbi ran 15 - they both met their goal!) i was a little leery about libbi participating since this was her first day back at school after battling the stomach bug (FOR FIVE DAYS!!!!) but she did great! she's obviously MUCH tougher than her momma. :) it's always funny to me how differently the girls react to unfamiliar situations - from their general demeanor right down to their wardrobe choices. laney got dressed this morning without a fight. in fact, she spilled chocolate milk on her shirt and didn't even bother to change. libbi was incredibly distraught over having to wear pants and "running shoes." she cried and moped around all morning because she couldn't wear a skirt. laney wasn't too sure if she wanted to participate in the run, but was positive she wanted me there. libbi insisted that i didn't have to come - and kept telling me, "you don't have to come. i don't mind…" laney was a little timid at first, but soon caught on to the idea of the event and was running like the wind. libbi followed every rule and when the DJ said "run," she ran. and she didn't stop.
laney smiled from ear to ear each time she spotted me when she rounded the corner. libbi pretended she didn't know me. ha! really, she just cut her eyes over at me once (to acknowledge my presence) and then she continued running. i love those girls and their unique personalities! and just for fun, here's a short video of laney running during the fun run this morning. i have a video of libbi, too….but she just basically tries to avoid making eye contact with me so the video makes it seem like i'm trying to creep on some random kid instead of my own child. i can't help but laugh every time i see the clip of laney, because it makes me think of phoebe buffay from friends. do y'all remember this episode?
five on friday…. on a saturday ;) i've been a bit of a sporadic blogger, but i'm trying to get back in the swing of things (as always). after reading, i'm sure you'll see why this week was a little "off" one. i will spare you the pictures and the details of the beginning of our week, because if you're anything like me the constant barrage of people posting on social media about the stomach virus is enough to make me want to delete my accounts… and then promptly make a doctor's appointment. but just know that i could post some of those pictures if i wanted to. but i don't. in fact, i'm feeling nauseous just typing about it right now…. (edit: as i was typing this post, we had been there. done that. before i could actually publish it, we were in "round two" ugh….) so…..moving on.
two. since we're (kind of) on the subject of bodily functions i feel like i have to ask if y'all have seen the commercial for the newest kids game called "doggie doo?" y'all. i don't even know what this world is coming to. seriously. have you seen this game?! i've only seen the commercials for it, but i can tell you right now that the tippins family will NOT be owning this. don't get me wrong, we love a little bathroom humor just as much as anyone, but a game based on dog poop?! no thank you. and do yourself a favor and read the reviews for it - hilarious. everything from 5 stars for a dog that poops constantly to only 1 star for a dog that has a "serious case of constipation." the actual product description is just too much…. i can NOT even believe that someone seriously suggests this game and that people are on board with it and market it. the description reads, "Feed and walk your little pup, if he makes a mess you clean it up! When you squeeze his leash he makes a gassy sound that gets louder and louder until...plop. The first to clean up after the dog three times wins." first - the use of the word "plop?!" i'm dying. second - why, why, why would you want to play a game (or buy it for your children?!) where the WINNER is the first person to clean up dog poop three times. doesn't really sound like a "winner" to me….
granted, i'm not a dog lover. i admit that. so maybe i'm missing something here, but when i was a little girl all i wanted to play was "pretty, pretty princess" not "poopy, poopy puppy." and….moving on. again. :) three. might as well continue with the trend i've got going on - i had a sweet tea from chickfila with lunch one day this week. something about the warmer weather just makes me want sweet tea - and chickfila's is the best! :) anyway, i had left it in the kitchen and libbi so kindly brought it to me in the living room. she hands it to me and says, "hey momma, guess what?!…. i tried something new!" as i'm drinking my sweet tea, i say, "oh, really? what?" and she says, "i tried your tea. and i didn't like it, but i did try it. and don't worry, i just spit it back in the cup so it didn't get on the floor." right. don't worry.
four. we've watched frozen no less than four times over the past 24 hours. my girls are obsessed (and i have to admit i love it too!) i can no longer say the words, "let it go" without breaking into song.

our days have been filled with the usual busy-ness of life and along the way, i've learned a few new "life lessons" if you will. i thought i'd share a few with y'all just in case you ever find yourself in the position to need them, you can't say i didn't warn you. ;) 1. if you have a doctor's appointment where you have to bring all three kids with you, the doctor will always, always be running behind. there is no such thing as a "quick blood draw" when you have three kids in tow. and during this appointment, at least one of your children will need to go to the bathroom (after you've been called back to the exam room) so you'll have to haul everyone out and make the trek to the potty. where said child will in fact, NOT have to go. false alarm. so you'll parade back to the exam room and get settled in. after setting up everyone's snacks, drinks, coloring books, pillows, and small cots (kidding) your other two children will decide that they have to potty. only they don't need to leave the room to do it. that small exam room will very quickly begin to feel like a prison cell. there is no escape, especially not for the horrid stench that is filling the room. the two children that have caused the torture like conditions will not be effected at all. the older one will loudly announce the thoughts that are simultaneously running through your head: "it smells disgusting!!" "let's get out of here!" "i'm going to be sick!" you'll have to change diapers on the exam table and you'll realize in between holding your breath and stifling gags - that it's not just your imagination, you really have been waiting for an hour and a half. you will strongly consider leaving those diapers and hightailing it out of there. but instead decide to dispose of them, reschedule your appointment, and advise the nurses that room #3 may need a bit of "freshening up." lessons learned: only schedule appointments during school hours. and always have an escape route.
2. i started bootcamp last week. i know. i can't believe it either. the first day wasn't too bad. i could keep up and was still alive after it was over. the second day - we had to run a mile. it's safe to say i cannot remember the last time i actually ran a mile. i've power walked a few here and there, but run? not so much. it was rough. i wish i could say i am one of those people that enjoys running and gets a "runner's high" and all that jazz, but unfortunately, i am not. if there is such thing as a running gene, i definitely do not have it (thanks a lot, mom and dad). maybe i'll be able to find my inner runner throughout the next few weeks, i'm going to give it my best shot. but i can't make any promises. lessons learned: be prepared to run. and invest in a good sports bra. ;)
3. we took the girls to a gym dogs meet last saturday. we had never been to a gymnastics meet before so we were all excited. we had been talking about the gym dogs all week and the girls were pumped. now, to be totally transparent, when we first told libbi that we were going to watch some gymnasts, she was less than thrilled. and it may have had something to do with the fact that we had watched the youtube videos of the "fart gymnastics" during the olympics. she said, "no! i don't want to see the tooting gymnastics!" haha! oops. after we assured her that was NOT what we were going to be seeing, she was on board. we talked about the gym dogs all week and how much fun it was going to be. on the way to athens on saturday, libbi excitedly said, "maybe we'll see one of the gym dogs on the road!" and as i explained to her that we wouldn't see them on the road, because they had to get ready for the meet, i started to wonder what she meant by her comment…. so the following conversation took place: Me: "libbi, do you know where we're going?" L: "to see the gym dogs."(riiiiight) Me: "do you know what the gym dogs do?" L: "tricks." (okaaaaay) Me: "who are the gym dogs?" L: "puppies that do tricks." (um, nooooo) lessons learned: always clarify. and pictures help. (side note - she enjoyed watching GYMNASTS much more than she would have enjoyed watching puppies) ;-)
4. my girls love to change clothes a million times a day. laney wears at least three-four pairs of (mis-matched) pajamas a day. and she will put on any combination of clothing that she can get her little hands on. the other day i had finally caught up on laundry and had everything put away. laney was thrilled, because she had so many items of clothing to choose from. after outfit number two i told her not to change clothes anymore. i told her that i was tired of doing laundry and finding clothes everywhere around the house and that she could not put on another outfit! she was less than thrilled, but said, "yes ma'am" and went upstairs to play. or so i thought. apparently she decided to take matters into her own hands. and she proudly paraded downstairs a little while later in her new get-up. it was (formerly known as) a pillowcase. which gives a whole new meaning to "pillowcase dress." she was very pleased with her creation. i was not. it was like a bad episode of project runway. although, i can't fault her because technically, she didn't put on anymore clothes. so i guess she did obey in her own roundabout way. lessons learned: keep linens out of reach. and be specific.
hopefully, you've gleaned a little wisdom from my mistakes experiences. and if you ever find yourself in any of these situations - you'll know what to do (or what NOT to do - ha!) and i'll sympathize with you while also appreciating the fact that i'm not alone. ;-)
alternately titled: adventures at "YegoYand" (thank you, laney) i almost titled this post, "adventures at atlanta's cesspool of germs" but i was afraid you would not click on the post and that there would be a good chance the title would make you a nervous wreck for the rest of the day. or maybe that's just me….. last saturday we took the girls to legoland or as laney likes to call it, "YegoYand." since they had no idea what legoland was (and truthfully, neither did i) they were (kind of) excited. although libbi was a bit nervous, because she thought we were going to see the lego movie and she did NOT want to. and laney was excited, because let's face it, laney gets excited about everything. :) and liza? well, she was just happy to be along for the ride. we thought it would be fun to take the girls to do something new and since they've been into building with their (princess) legos lately, we figured they might enjoy legoland.
now, don't get me wrong. i'm sure it is a fun place. especially if you are a little boy that is obsessed with legos, because it did seem geared more towards school-aged boys, but our girls just weren't that into all the attractions it had to offer.
i had to try my hardest to keep my crazy, germaphobe tendencies to myself, because there was nothing that i wanted to say more than, "don't touch that!" and "let's go wash your hands!" at least 5,000 times. i'll spare you all the details, but instead just show you a picture:
now imagine countless other kids also doing this same thing. gag. i'm sure legoland is a nice establishment, but i can't imagine that these blocks are sanitized in a way to prevent the spread of who knows what. (the word "norovirus" kept haunting me while we were there…)
when we go places like legoland, it's always a reminder of how different the girls' personalities are. libbi preferred to play by herself in the germ lego pit. while laney tried out the lego ride and inserted herself into multiple car races between eight year old boys. these boys would build their elaborate lego cars and have them ready for the race at the starting line. laney would walk up to the track, plop her block with a set of wheels down in the middle of the track, give it a shove, and declare herself "Winner!" haha. she is in her own world.
libbi is acutely aware of all her surroundings. i'm not even sure laney realizes there are other people around. and yet, that's why they are such a good balance for each other. libbi encourages laney to have more boundaries and laney encourages libbi to step out of her comfort zone. although, i'm sure in about 12 years or so it will be interesting to see how that plays out….
after the girls played for a while and touched every last lego in that place, we washed our hands (i refrained from lysoling everyone) and made our way back to the car. legoland was fun and i'd encourage you to go if you're in atlanta and have a lego-lover at home. but for our girls, i think next time we'll save our money and just let them ride up and down the escalator. for free. ;-)
